4 Star Rating
We recently completed this home that received a 4 star rating from the City of Austin's Green Building Program.
The owner's worked with Danze & Davis Architects on the plans. Danze & Davis has shot a video
of this project with the owners discussing the green building process.

The owner's wanted to combine the beauty of a big house with the efficiency of a small one,
with each space in use every day. The home is filled with special details and is designed to
accommodate the lifestyle of the occupants (including three cats), where they are surrounded
by beautiful forms, lots of daylight, natural materials, and views of the wildscape. The home
incorporates green building techniques that include energy
efficiency and the use of sustainable products. Some of the home's features include:
- Use of low and no VOC paints.
- Sustainable products for flooring, including stained and scored concrete floors, mesquite wood,
and wool carpets.
- Finger joint studs for framing.
- HVAC is higher SEER with zoning, programable thermostat, and variable speed fan to help with
humidity control.
- Use of energy efficient appliances and lighting.
- Design provides miminal windows on the west wall, has porches to help shade the home, and
windows placed to provide good cross ventilation.
- Use of native landscaping for a low water landscape.
- Grinding scrap materials and leaving as mulch on site rather than filling up landfills.
This home was exciting to build, with the excellent use of sustainable products. Please contact
us on how you can incorporate green techniques in your new home.
