5 Star Rating
We recently completed this home that received a 5 star rating from the City of Austin's Green Building Program.
5 Stars is the highest rating that can be received. Designed by JMBA Architects,
the bungalow includes ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) exterior walls, metal roof, with energy efficient building products.
The design fits perfectly with the homes in this south central Austin neighborhood. Some of the home's features include:
- "Screened-in" back porch.
- HVAC system properly sized for the size of the home, the orientation on the lot, and type of walls/insulation used.
- Stained and scored concrete floors.
- Spray applied polyurethane foam insulation under the roof, and on the non-ICF exterior walls. The foam insulation provides
insulation and seals the home. Insulating the roof allows the attic to be much cooler.
- Use of low VOC paints.
- Grinding scrap materials and leaving as mulch on site rather than filling up landfills.
This home was chosen to be in the Cool House Tour, which is put on by the Texas Solar Energy Society.
The tour was held May 21, 2006.
